GAME 002:  September 8, 2018:  "Really, Kenneth...You Only Bring Me One Paper Towel..."

PREVIOUS:

I fulfilled my last obligation to Butterum Alefist and the Albino Nine by speaking at his memorial.  I was heading to his favorite tavern when I was approached by Ramallia, a Sun Elf female, and her human Harper companion, Syndra Silvane.  They were putting together a team of remarkable individuals that have been affected by the "wasting" plague.  The mission was to gather information from a known source and then hopefully find a way to end this plague.    I agreed to the mission and was immediately teleported north to Baulder's Gate.

Our task is to retrieve the spell book phylactery of a lich known as the "Dutchess of Rot" and return it to Ramallia and Syndra.  The tower is roughly 3 days by boat and our captain for this journey is a halfling named Callbrax.  The cavern is just a smugglers cave that has been secured and trapped at key points.  We only managed to explore a few rooms before I made the decision that the rouge is going to be the first one to die.  We manage to retrieve the spellbook/phylactery and get back to the boat without suffering too much.  Once we are on the boat the captain casts a teleport scroll and we appear in a nearby clearing surrounded by bodies.  

Ramallia is there and she calls to the Lich Zaltera, the Dutchess of Rot.  I have her spellbook and agree to return it safe and undamaged if she will tell us everything she knows about the "wasting" disease.  We learn that the death curse is most likely a lich's phylactery and is located deep in the jungles of Chult.  Zaltera is positive that the phylactery is located in the lost city of Omu but she is not able to give us a location for the city.  I am certian that the Yuan-ti have something to do with this curse even though Zaltera is not aware of any connections.  Before I return her book I make it a point to introduce myself and remind her that we worked her straight and kept our end of the bargan.  

We pass on our information to Syndra and she commisions us to travel to Chult, make our way to Omu, and put an end to this death curse.  We have the use of her villa and we will have contacts within the city.  We all agree and are teleported to Chult.

CURRENT:

Day 9: evening

We are getting ready to head out to the trip to Chult.  Before the trip i take on 4 potions of healing (2d4+2) and we manage to get a bag of holding for Johnny and Kenneth.  I contribute 50 gp to Johnny's bag of holding (similar to a messanger bag).  I also contribute  71 gp to kenneth (normal sack).

Before we leave, Syndra tells us that if we return to her before she dies she will gather a magic item of our choice.  Based on her current condition we learn that she only has roughly 50 days.

Day 10:  Syndra 50 days:  morning:

We are teleported to the manor house for Syndra.  Syndra tells us that her contact is the merchant Wakanda Mukando and he is the prince incharge of magic items like potions, scrolls, wands, or staffs.  He also has a large collection of arcane arts.  Kenneth manages to purchase a basic book of the reagion titles "A Brief History of Chult" by Lazam Reedfellow.  Simimar to a folders guide.  

When we arrive we are met by Wakanda and he introduces himself.  He greets us and offers us a journal that was supposedly brought out of the jungle 15 years ago.  It is clear that it is wirtten by a wizard and a shield guardian named Vorn.  It is about 40 pages and has maps and locations in chult.  We are ablr to stay here and copy items from this book.  There are several pictures of the shield guardian.  

kenneth and I are able to determine that this journal was written by someone from Mulhorand in the far north of Faurun.  The journal talks about areas that he has been to but not very detailed maps.  The main gist is that the Lost City of Omu is more to the south between the Peaks of Flame and the Kobald Mountains.  

Day 10:  Syndra 50:  evening:

The only tru location is the last location of Vorn.  The place that it mentions is not by name but tells us that we can follus the river olum at the end of the river.  Something like a goblin tribe and were forced to leave the guardian.  There is a picture of the control amulet.  We do not know where the journal was found and we don't know wehre the control crystal was last seen.  

Syndra also tells us that we can should hire a guade if we are going deep into the jungle.  We need a cleric and we need a guade so we should find a way to combile the two.  Both syndra and wakanda recomend the same guade named Shago and he was a former gladiator.  He is from fort Balurium which is a short trip on an established, only 2 to three days.  

We all purchase the bug salve that will repel insects.  In an effort to maintain my human vissage I will purchase 3 insence blocks and 1 gord of salve.
- insence:  1 sp per 8 hours repels insects.  20 feet radium
- salve:  gord 20 applications.  1 application about 20 hours and waterproof

We are all geared up and ready to roll.  We leave in the morning for Fort Ballarium to meet with the the guide.  The order of the Flaming Fist control this fort.  For the rest of the night I take time to meet with the Dwarves of my company.  

While i am out i over hear someone talek about a platu in the aldani basin.  human villiange that is deserted.  follow river saushenstar.  We can get tio the aldini basin.  Very large villiage that was not a fortified villiage.  Large expedition and he was part of the muscle.  It is the ruins of mbala.  

The rest of the party discover that therr is another guade that we might be able to go with.  Ted's contact recomends another druid that is a member of the emerald enclave named Kawasha and companion Kupalo that is a pigmy dwarf.  

Johnny also manages to get a contact possibility but they are a little more sketcy and will not work in the city proper.  They operate out of a part of the city that is not a good place to be at night.  This pair is not the best option but they are still a posibility.

Day 11:  Syndra 49:  morning:  

We leave early in the morning without incident.  We are moving at picking up the pace for this trip.  Ted is our navigatot at a faster pace.  We hire a boat for the first part of the trip and we save a day.  The plan is to follow the coast up.  The are some people but they do not look like they are just out and about.  

Day 12:  Syndra 48:  morning:

Our second day is not a fast as the first day becasue we manage to get a little lost.  We are feeling the heat and our rain catchers are really doing the job.  We may need to slow our pace becasue of the heat and water use.  

Day 13:  Syndra 47:  afternoon:

We actually find our that we are lost and at the end of the short pennensula.  The rain is heavy and we are able to use the rain catcher fully.  

Day 13:  Syndra 47:  evening:

As we make camp we hear noises to the north.  We do not hear any voices but we do hear humming.  johnny moves silently through the forest and gets close enough to see that it is a femail in a cloak.  They do not appear to be hostile.  I am able to determine that the song is a love some from the sword coast.  

As they approach I name the song that she is singing and ask her if she would like to share our fire.  She is a human that inctroduces herself as Isabel and based on her comment to Ted she is part of the Emerald enclave.  She greets ted as a brother.  She is going to Port Nyansaru from fort Balarum.  She is familiar with Kwasha and the pygmy companion.  She has been in Chult for about a 10 days and she is making a delivery to her contact in Port Nyansaru. After that she is going to ttavel back to Waterdeep.  

Day 14:  Syndra 46:  afternoon:

We encounter a patrol that greats us as we make contact and see that this is only a day away.

Day 15:  Syndra 45:  late afternoon:  

We arrive at the Fort Balarium without incident.  The Fort is walled with wooden timgers and is an octogon in shape.  The fort is roughly the size ofa  football field.  The fort is mostly self contained.  The structures are tent.  There is only one main structirs.  First thing that we encounter is they request that we need a charter.  The charter is 50 gold and contains all of our names.  The charter is good for a year.  We purchase a charter and Johnny puts it in his bag of holding.  We also manage to acquire another rain catcher.

We meet with Shago and he looks impressive and charasmatic.  He is an acomplished gladiator and has earned his reputation as a fighter.  We tell him about our mission to the city of Omu nd he has also heard of the rumors.  He tells us that he is almost certain that the city of Omu is located to the west of the peaks of flame.  The routes are either going back through the jungle or sail around the island.  There are good and bad either way.  

After much discussion we decide that the overland route is better because the boat route would take us by Jahaja Bay and possible pirates.  The overland route takes us down river and increatss our speed

Day 16:  Syndra 44:  Morning:

We leave the fort and head back to port nyanzaru with Shago and we make it back in three days

Day 19:  Syndra 41:  Late afternoon:  

We manage to get to the port nayanzaru without incident.  I pick up severael days of ratiions, salve, and insence.  The part also gathers another rain catcher and a total of 4 casks for the entire party.  We all split up to gather supplies and then meet back to wakanda's compound.  Myself and some of the party are very tight liped about their real reason for this adventure.  I try to hide my real reason by following the patterns and practices as the normal day to day Albino 9 grunt work.  We also purchase two canoes that can hold 6 of us

Volo Gidarn is the man that I meat is called Volo's Guide to monsters.  I have this book as a copy.  I am able to use this for the remiander of the game.

Day 20:  Syndra 40:  Morning:  On the river 0

We start our with out any incident.  As we pass by the bay we encounter the tribe that worship the lost god Ubtaio.  These are the giant crabs from the beach.  These creatures are originally from the albani basin.  As soon as they realise that we see them they dive back into the water.  We butn through some of our water but it rains so we are about to replenish the supply.

Day 23:  Syndra 37:  Late Afternoon:  On the river 3

We are making great time moving up the river.  the river opens and closes at points but basically a normal way.  we are able to see animal life in the trees and in the river.  Nothing has approached us or made any contact with us yet.  

Without warning Johnny whips his head around andhears a whoosh, whoosh approaching.  Shago looks around and points out two pteragons moving down the river.  They dive into the water and come back out with a very large fish.  They leave us alone and they move off down the river.  We all play with the idea of using Thunderwave or magic missile to hunt or to fish.

End of the third day we have moved roughly 60 miles.  We also realiae that kenneth is seveerely sea sick as he is on the river.  

Day 24:  Syndra 36:  Evening:  On the river 4

We take time to try out the thunderwave and manage to kill enough fish to supliment our rations.  Shago tells us that some of the fruit that we are findin are still good and they will keep for a few days.

Day 26:  Syndra 34:  Late Afternoon:  On the river 6

We get to Camp Richous and it still looks abandoned.  As we approach we see a few other canoons.  They appear to have been here for a little while.  There are some tents but they have been damaged and destryed.  There are several other solid buildings.  As we apporach there is a large statue that appears to have been erected.  The statue is stone and apears to have been there for quite some tiem.  It is a body of a man and head of a crododile.  It is about 80 feet tall.  Shago has been here but never stopped.

I am able to deterint that this is the House of the crocodile.  Ythis is a shrine to the lost god optao.  These were peaceful people.  The whole purpose of the order of the Guantet is to push farther into chult.  The Order of the Gauntlet set up this camp but they were not able to hold.  This camp has been abandoned for nearly 7 years.  The boats are smaller and most likely belog to a goblin or smaller race.  I also take the time to wipe out our footprints.
